Phyllostachys Nigra (Black Bamboo)

Bought two of these when we bought the Johnson's geranium but have to say they aren't looking too happy, there are loads of brown leaves on it - does anyone else have bamboo?

And if so is this okay to be happening for this time of year or is there something I can do to assist them.

Have been watering them daily due to the heat - the soil is bone dry everytime I go out to rewater.

Thanks

Hi Ingrid,
I have black bamboo. Are yours in pots or in the ground? They are fairly hardy but you need to keep the water up to them (but not over-water), both around the roots and on the leaves. Mine tend to look a bit feeble in the really hot weather, but they seem to recover ok - even from the depredations of puppy teeth!

Thanks SB, they are in pots at the moment until we've cleared the rubble out.

Haven't been watering near the roots as I have no trays - but that's a good point, might have to dash to the garden centre today and pick some up.

And I never thought of putting water on the leaves - thank you, I'm going to do that right now.

Thanks SB tried to give you a rep point but it won't let me - will get one to you tomorrow.

Hi I've got bamboo in the front garden and have to agree they look - not too good in really hot weather. But come back great, they are thirsty critters though. or at least mine are.

Thanks Kazz, what a relief to read that it seems to be common.

Thank you

Will take a shot of it for you, but just to warn you it's looking really parched

Bamboo is lovely - are you going to put some in your garden too?
