Shelter Dogs to be Proud of (and SBT photos)
Last Sunday the annual Great North Dog Walk was held at South Shields. My friend Sharon and I went along as part of the Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter with some of the dogs waiting for a home. There 7 dogs in all, two SBT's, a very petite older SBT, a Greyhound, a greyhound x, a fluffy x breed and another xbreed bit like a lab I suppose. Anyway all the dogs were so well behaved, considering their normal every day existance to going there where there were thousands of dogs of all shapes and sizes. They were all brilliant and all deserve the best kind of home.
The only blot was my fault
someone put some dog biscuits on the grass and without thinking I let my dog Paxton go in for them the same time as Missy, well judging by his reaction he does not like to share his food (no harm done, just a lot of snarling), I know better than to let two dogs that don't know each other go in for food at the same time, was v annoyed with myself!TSK!
Anyway I was proud of all the dogs and other than the aforementioned scuffle, my shelter dog Paxton was excellent, he sniffed dogs of all shapes and sizes without a cross word. Pictures of him are to follow, I wish he could get a home. I take him out at least 3 times a week, he has good recall and will walk to heel after the intial excitement of kennel freedom! I'm not saying he's perfect, he can be quite headstrong and sometimes stubborn, won't give up his ball without a bribe, but he is a character, clever, and does not seem at all agressive to other dogs (have not tried him offlead with one), although I do think he would like to be "in charge".. and nearly forgot he's got no fur on his ears other than a few ginger hairs
still a handsome boy though......
Sorry for going on, here's my boy...any takers?????
and a couple of him in the shelter field, looking at a passing dog..
Thanks for taking the time to read this
