LOL finger and thumb are the most important I think

I don't really use a nail file on Archie as a short walk on the pavement after clipping the nails does the job a lot easier

I think reading what Olive has written, the trimming technique is similar in all our breeds, although I have never trimmed an Irish or WFT..I guess it is rather like doing the Airedales and Lakies Schnauzers are slightly different, we clip the bum and the v shape from the ears down to the chest bone, with the terriers it all had to be stripped . I think the feathers/furnishings are softer and more profuse on Minis too.

EDITED to say.have just read what Olive said about the KC and I have heard the same, I would not want one, if I wanted to cut the coat I would prefer a durham duplex with its small blade and teeth or thinning scissors.

well Florrie is a Westie cross dandie dinmont, which gives her the disadvantage of having long, and very thick hair, now she isnt a show dog of course, so she usually gets clipped as it is slightly more practical, well we used clippers, cant remember which make, but they kept giving a finnish that wasnt the desired so we used, like Mini, the hand held shear things, they give a nicer cut IMO.
But anyway onto the subject, even with clipping i still had to trim the private areas of Florrie with thinnign scissors as i was allways to nervous to take the clippers to the nether regions

wait until you have a white bull terrier and you chalk the pink bits(eg nose, balls and bum)and as you are applying the loose chalk to the bum they let rip and you end up with smelly chalk dust in your face
