Meet Florrie - New Forest Pony

On Tuesday , 8th April '08 , I went down to the stables to get a stable ready for my new pony .......Rowhill Nightingale , known as Florrie at home.

. She arrived at 7-30pm , a little scared and confused as she'd never been in a lorry on her own , or indeed a stable. It's getting dark and she looks out of her window .....
.
There's nothing happening outside so she settles down to eat some hay.......
.
Wednesday morning , she looks out to see where she is..........
.
Still a little sleepy from her journey last night...........
.
But she's happy to get out to stretch her legs

and take in the view......
.
She then enjoys a run around the school.........
.
followed by a good roll ....

.

.
I will add more pictures later .

She is lovely. How old is she? She doesn't look that old.
Looks like you have a very intense grooming session ahead of you, looking at her belly
I hope you have many many happy years together.

Thanks everyone . Madmare , she is only 2 years old. She was born wild in the New Forest. Rounded up as a yearling and taken to Beaulieu Road Sales. She was bought there by the dealer I bought her from. He had bought a load of them , colts and fillies, and they have been kept over the winter in a big shed. Colts in one , fillies in the other. Kept the same way a farmer would overwinter cattle , straw put down every couple of days and haylage down the length of the centre corridor. There were about 20 ponies in the shed with Florrie. They have had very little handling so are totally unspoilt . No grooming either ! The dirt on her belly is caked on dung . That's going to take a while to get off but she is being very good about it. If you check out post 13 on my other thread "Getting my pony today" , that gives an update on how she is settling in . When I went to see the ponies , I was happy with the way they were being kept as although they all had dung caked on from lying down , they were all very happy and relaxed. All of the ponies had a good shine on their coats and bright eyes. And not a runny nose , cough, or any wounds, to be seen or heard. I think it is a good way to keep unhandled ponies as they have each other for company and so they don't get stressed out. I've got more pics which were taken yesterday that I will post later today. You should see a difference in her since Wednesday , when the above pics were taken. She has settled in very quickly over the past 5 days , she's almost like a different pony , but then New Forests are renowned for their good temperaments .
