Just ordered a DSLR!! (Update: It's here!)
LOL, but I have till Tuesday if I want to cancel it or not
So which one did I order? No surprises here, the
Nikon D40 here are my reasons:
1) It comes with a great kit lens - which would save me around £200 if I went for say the 400D (I'm not keen on the 440d's kit lens - also not to mention the 400D is about £200 more expensive to begin with too).
2) I don't need 10MP as I won't be printing larger than A4. It also helps disipline me to frame photos better, and not relying on being able to crop so much
3) I don't want to wait till November - I could be dead by then!
4) Even if a new model comes out in November, and I'd still rather go for this one - I doubt the price would drop much (look at 350ds/D50s/D70s/etc for comparison) even if it went down 20/30/40 even £50, it's still not as good as the £60 cashback which ends at the end of this month
5) As I am a beginner, the D40 is ideal, as it gives you pointers as you shoot - eg, if there's not enough light, it'll tell you and suggest using the flash!
6) Again as a beginner it lets me get into the whole DSLR thing, and once I know more about them and what I want I can use that knowledge to help me decide what I want out of my next DSLR
7) Nikon do some great quality lens that also include VR (image stablisation) the one I want to get next is only £179
It would mean that in future there are two cameras here, so ideal if you want to go out taking pics with someone, and also great if sometimes you don't want to take out your more expensive one.
9) As its a Nikon, it has pretty good resale value (pretty much the same as canon from what I have seen)
10) Last but certainly not least - I like the quality of the pics it takes!
Even if I don't like it when I get it (due to being a crap photographer!) at least I'll have experienced a Nikon camera! I aim to experience a Canon too at some point!
It's not due to be shipped out until Wednesday - So I should get it on Friday or Monday... wish me luck!
