Replacement for Rawhide chews

Does anyone know what I can give to
Summer and Heidi in place of chews?,
they do like to have a chew, but after what
happened on Friday,I don't want a repeat,
but they get bored, and also I want something
that will help their teeth.
Any ideas gratefully received.

You could give anything from a tripe stick to filled Kong. If you go to any pet shop they will have a range of chews. The dentastix ones made by Pedigree are specifically made to help teeth.

Hi Cally. try raw carrots, I feed them whole, dried fish is good too (from pet shops or Fish4dogs online shop).
My dog loves her everlasting treat ball (from Dog Games online shop ) and it keeps her happy for hours. The replacement chicken discs are quite expensive so I sometimes stick a carrot or dried fish into the 'fingers' instead.

You could maybe try a fresh raw bone? Get a good old cows thigh bone and it not only clean their teeth, it will strengthen their jaw muscles, and also it will last for hours...

Frozen food in a kong
raw bone - personally I wouldnt go for a load bearing bone like thigh bone, I give rib, neck, tail, shoulder
one I used for a while - if you have dogs that wont swallow non food, small coke bottle stuffed with bits of cheeze and treats and stuff, zapped 20s in microwave so cheese sticks stuff together
make sure its cool before giving to the dog
frozen chunks of meat, vege or fruit
Felted wool (get some fleece and stuff it in tights then put through a hot wash, it felts down into a ball that the dogs love to rip to bits - then you can refelt it)

Tripe sticks, cows ears, bull pizzles, dried lamb necks (no bones), dried ostrich tendons.....the possiblities are endless

Have a look at www.zooplus.co.uk for lots of air dried, natural chews with no nasty chemicals.

BTW I'm not on commission, I just think they're brill

Oxtails! Lots of cartilage to chew and really helps clean the teeth. I found them a bit pricey though but a nice treat.

Lamb's bones (not legs) are a nice treat, as well as tripe sticks, carrots and kong type toys filled with yummy stuff like cooked meat and liver. I personally wouldn't feed anything like dentastix because in my experience, it sticks to the teeth, so how can it clean them? They are also full of additives. I don't feed pigs ears either, because they are often deep fried and full of fats and additives. My dogs love veggies and fruits. Avoid grapes and pips, but anything else is worth a try.
