No idea hun ,But I do know what you mean my mum we Jr/chiuuah used to do it all the time , And she was 20 when she had to be helped on her way over the bridge , We used to joke she didnt want to get her paws wet ,xxxdk

Think there is a difference between pee marking and emptying the bladder. As a dog get older it is more difficult/painful to stand on one leg with the other raised beyond the danger of getting wet so older and castrated dogs do seem to stand to have a relieving pee but will or may cock the leg to mark.

Diesel does this ALOT, usually when its up against a tree, front paws on the floor back legs either leaning on the tree or just in the air

He he! wish our phil would do this he doesnt even bother cocking his leg sometimes and gets it all over his front paws!

So they can get it higher up the tree (even if there isn`t a tree) and therefore cover previous markings. It`s a status thing. I had a very bossy bitch who used to do it so she could put her scent as high as the boys. I watched a wildlife film on african wild dogs doing this and they practically run up the tree backwards to get it higher.

Willow does this when she gets off lead for her usual run. Quite amusing, cos she's only got the one front leg.
