How long does a "season" last?

It is so long since I had anything to do with unspeyed bitches that I can't remember how long their seasons last or when the "riskiest" time is.
Mo was showing blood for around 12 days and now seems to be clear, her "tinkle" is less swollen, and she seems happier in her self, as she was very unsettled and listless during this time.
I know she can not make out why she hasn't been taken for her nice long runs.
So I really just want to know when it would be safe to let her off lead again for a run?

It's approximately 3 weeks from the time you first spot blood.

Definitely not! A season usually lasts 21 days (but can be longer). The difficulty is that you might not realize the cycle has started because the amount of blood, at first, might go unnoticed.

The most critical time, or period when the bitch could be made pregnant, is anywhere between day 7 and day 15, but again, every bitch is different and if there is a dog in the same household, you will have to keep them apart, preferably by more than one door, from day 6 or 7 onward. Many breeders breed on day 11, day 13 and sometimes again on day 15, thus "covering" the most fertile period.

Hope this helps.

Hey never feel that that's what we're here for, and it shows you're responsible for asking. It's the ones that think they know and don't bother asking that are a worry

Aaaw fanx
It's such a pity she can't be speyed but we knew that when we adopted her.
She has looked so sad sometimes and can't make out why she is taken where there are no other dogs, and not allowed to run.
OR,......... maybe she wants the chance to go off and find herself a boy friend

Why cant you have her spayed is there a medical reason or are you thinking of breeding her.

She can't be speyed because she has a heart condition.
Not sure about "the pill" either, to be honest, I would rather just be carefull with her during these times. Although it would be worth discussing it with her vet.
