Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

It has happened before, but I have just been made aware of someone lifting text from some of my posts and passing it off as their own "work"

Plagiarism, theft or "research" ?

Hmmmmm.

I have also had this happen a number of times, in a variety of situations, including in one case a two page official summary submission that I had put a great deal of time, experience and research into.

Lifted from an official site formally investigating a subject and cut and pasted wholesale, unaltered (except of course for removing my details), on a forum as the poster's own knowledge, experience, analysis, presentation and writing

No debate, it is plagiarism, which is intellectual theft.

In research one credits and cites one's source(s).

Theft is not flattering, citation might be.

I believe that it is said that copying from one source is plagiarism while copying from many is research!

So are they just copying from you?

Surely in this context "just copying from you" = "just plagiarising you"?

As I said, good research involves citing all your sources, not implying or claiming it as your own insight, knowledge or experience. Your work is in pulling together the references and then drawing, presenting and justifying your own conclusions and inferences from those references, together with anything of your own input.

Educational courses now need to use programmes to detect plagiarism as it is so rife, and they seek to detect it because it is unethical and cheating to take credit for someone else's work as your own.

I do remember a UK member having pics of their dogs used in a dog for sale scam in the US....Once in the public domain our content can end up anywhere....

I've ordered a lead like the ones you recommended....... I was worried for a minute there when I read your title!

Yes I am paranoid!

Still; if the lead is rubbish I'll have to post allll about it to discredit you. *Just kidding*

I doubt very much anyone will ever copy and paste my text. I waffle so much that any grains of sensibleness are pretty well hidden amongst my many words.

I'd be a bit annoyed though if someone didn't quote me - but just used my words and passed them off as their own....
