How positive are you?

I've posted a poll as these sort of debates can go south very quickly

So guys, we don't want a poll closed, but it's probably about where your line in the sand is with using 'corrections'

Can I just say I would like to attend the workshop of anyone who reckons they are purely positive?

indeed, one of the reasons for posting this is a recent karen pryor article (in fact i think you put the link up?) on the fact that it's not possible to be purely positve

i also had a 'debate' on another forum about the use of checks and prongs

so it did get me thinking - the line in the sand is different for everyone

I`ve put physical contact because I will shove a dog off my leg (for example) as a reaction to what they`re doing. I think dogs understand this.
But I wouldn`t initiate a shove - as for pushing a dog into a sit - because it simply doesn`t teach the dog anything.
I don`t think we should get too precious about it though. I`m sure we`ve all shoved a persistent dog away when we`re trying to enjoy a snack in front of the TV....

I will raise my voice a little to interrupt some behaviours (like tryin to raid the bin or counter surfing) but for others (like biting feet or jumping up) I will just stand still and ignore it. If she's really bein a little pita I might leave the room or physically pick her up and remove her from whatever she's doing. My older dogs don't really get up to much that needs correcting these days

I put raise my voice - but forgot to tick Physical contact. I will like C&D, shove them off my knee or out the door if they're p*ssing about, and we play fight (Does that count?)

Working is everything

Of course stroking is physical contact...................
Massage is physical contact
Physiotherapy is physical contact

Using a lead is physical contact, tracking on a harness and line is physical contact..........

And duration is another factor

eg how long do you ignore a dog?

Unfortunately this poll is anonymous.

Having attended seminars and trained with some of the best clicker trainers (rather than clicker users) from all over the world, I have yet to meet one that IS purely positive as of course it is impossible as they have all agreed.

Hence why I (and many more people) would like to attend workshops with the trainers who claim to be PURELY positive.

Because I would love to learn how this is possible.
