Natural remedy - Rhus Tox

Flame is currently on two PLT tablets per day for her arthritis. However, I am considering changing her over to a natural remedy to see whether this is as effective.

I have read that Rhus Tox is good for arthritis. Has anyone used it for their older, arthritic dogs - and did it work?

Did you use drops or pill form?

Also, does it need to be specifically for dogs?

I used this when Mac started to get arthritis, did seem to help him but as it got worse I found msn, chrondroitin, glucosamine and green lipped mussel were more effective. I just used human ones from boots.

Yes, and I "think" I told you about it when Flame first went on plt. I used it on Holly for a while and it certainly helped her. I also gave it to Harvey when he needed it.

I used to get it from Boots.

THe problem with using homeopathy is that you need to use the right remedy, it could be Rhus Tox, it could be Ruta Grav, it could be a number of other things.

You may find a combo of RG, RT and Arnica may suit better.

A homeopath would ask various questions to see if it is worse on rising or after a while etc etc.

Most people use pilules or tablets, you can get lactose free, the remedy is the same whether on human or animal.

I can give you some more info if you want.

I am quite interested in homeopathy and treat my dogs and myself.

Yes I`ve tried it.
No it didn`t make any difference
No it doesn`t need to be for dogs (afaik)
It does no harm, so I`d be happy to try it again.

I haven't used anything for arthritis but have tried other remedies, some were successful some weren't. I was told by someone not to touch the tablets which sometimes makes them difficult to administer, and then they would get spat out but Ainsworths do 'soft' tablets which melt in the mouth or you can ask them to make a liquid form of whatever you need.

Thanks everyone.

Yes Helen, I seem to remember you did mention it a long time ago.

Yes, Smokeybear, I would like info please.

I just don't know what to do for the best. The PLTs definitely help, but it would be nice to find a natural alternative if at all possible.

Will I need to speak to a homeopathic vet?

You would not NEED to speak to a homeopathic vet necessarily, but it might be useful, depends on availability and costs I guess for you.

I will write a bit about it later on this evening as I am in the middle of something now and just dipping in and out.
