One of mine had a habit of snatching pheasants from the air as they took off, we dont seem to see as many about now though.

Wow aren't you blessed!

Lots of pheasants around here at the moment, Merlin flushed at least 7 the other day but he just likes to make them fly and chases a bit, even though he almost stood on a couple of them, he hasn't got a clue about catching them.

I thought Rue might be more skilled at the catching part (the devil in me thinking of a nice roast pheasant) but hey ho, she hasn't a clue either and isn't even interested in a bit of a chase.

Mind you she was very keen when we came across a couple of rabbits.... unfortunately at the time we were in the centre of a major private school (has public footpaths going through campus) and both were on-lead.... I really didn't want a repeat of the incident with the school's resident goose last Christmas, when Merlin thought his boat had come in, and the goose thought it was going to meet its maker.... and I was petrified the CCTV would have us plastered all over the local paper come New Years....

i dont think either of them would stand a chance of killing anything bigger than a rat on their own but they have learnt to work together,
i feel for you with the school field, my dogs killed a rabbit in front of a couple little kids once, didnt go down well lol

The looks of horror when Ruperts leaped up, grabbed a pigeon out of the air and settled down to eat it are bad enough, I can't imagine the reaction I'd get if they saw him catch and kill something cute and cuddly.

We had an argument about a squashed and rotting squirrel last night, he wanted to bring it home but the muzzle prevented him from picking it up (thankfully, it's been there a week!). He sulked all the way home.

Brilliant - nothing like a dog that feeds itself

What type of dogs do you have?
