Ethical Breeders - Litters ?

How many litters would you expect an ethical breeder to produce over a two year period ?

Depends how large the kennel is. I don't think bitches should be mated before 2 or after 6 except in exeptional circumstances for the latter & I don't think any bitch should be mated more often than every other season, or 3 seasons if she had a very large litter, or needed an emergency caesarian. (Note I say an emergency caesarian as I understand this can occur without warning in any breed, don't believe you should breed from a bitch you know will have to have a caesarian birth.)
However, as far as litters in total are concerned, in my opinion. a large breeding & showing kennel, with a kennel manager & several staff, who have several winning animals in whatever gendre they are involved with could have as many as 7 or 8 litters in this time & still be ethical as long as they have satisfactory homes for the puppies lined up & facilities to take any dog back if neccessary.

4 litters max, two or 3 possibly or less preferably. My friends who bred Livvy have bred 6 litters in 14yrs.

I think two litters a year is more than sufficient. I'd prefer it to be less though if I'm honest.
