Calling Collators and Judges

The virtual show is hopefully back - as long as we can get collators and judges.

We need one collator and one judge for each of these classes. Judges and collators can't enter their own dogs in the class they are involved in, so only offer for classes that you don't want to enter:

If you don't know what's involved, you can read the FAQs http://www.dogsey.com/showthread.php?t=64435 or send me a pm.

We might not get to do all these classes, so we'll start with the first ones to get judges and collators.

Thanks All.

I'll allocate some classes later today/tonight.

In the meantime, here's some info about the two roles (don't let the long description of collating put you off - it is easier to do than it is to try and describe in writing!)

Collating
As the classes are supposed to be anonymous (although many of us recognise each other’s dogs!) we need someone to receive the entries and to post them on a thread rather than the dog’s owner posting (which would give away who’s dog it is).

The collator needs to:
  1. receive pms from all the entrants. Some of the classes can be quite big and you will need to keep up to date to ensure you have enough pm room and so the posting task doesn’t get out of hand

  2. When a pm is received, check they have given you all the info as per the class requirements and that the entry seems to be consistent with the class (e.g. if you a judging a gundog class, that the dog is a gundog!); if any queries, check with the entrant first and then with me.

  3. Record all the details somewhere so that you can match each post with the dog’s name, owner and other details (don’t just rely on your pms as it can get confusing as to which entrant is which post and if it is a big class you might have to clear your pms a number of times). You could write the information down or (as I used to do) paste it into a table (if you want further info on this, let me know)

  4. copy the photo entries from your pm into the thread for the class which I will have created, remembering to include any required information (e.g. breed) but NOT the dogs’ or owners’ names.

  5. Once the closing date has passed, confirm to me that all entrants have been posted.

  6. When the judge has chosen, I will ask you for the details of various posts, e.g. I’ll say can I please have the details for posts 3, 6, 8, 9 & 10).

Judging
Seems like the easier job – but making the decisions can be really hard.
  1. Give placings from 1st-6th (assuming there are at least that many worthy) and at your discretion, you can give the occasional ‘special’.

  2. Let me know which posts are in which place.

  3. I will then pm you the ‘rosettes’ for each placing and open a thread for the ‘awards’. You will then post the placings in this thread, adding a few words against each placing for reasons for the selection.
