Docked Ridgeback!

I saw the strangest thing ever this morning, I was walking down thd road, was about to cross and saw a RR the other side with only 1/4 of its tail, so I talked to the owner who said that he got him off his friend who did it, but I don't get it, espically as from what I know Ridgebacks are not a traditional docked breed are they? So what would possess someone to dock the tail of one?

No idea why. Must have looked very odd, poor thing.

I once saw a docked Akita go through rescue (how could they!?)...unfortunately the situation it had come from, it was presumed it was done for the fighting ring

could it have been an injury that needed a part of the tail removed?

that's what I was thinking. I've seen other breeds with docked tails for this reason including a Bullmastiff and a Labrador.

Hopefully this was the reason, rather than my theory..

Could have been an injury, my Irish wolfhound Tessie had to have her tail docked as it wouldnt heal after she injured it - she wouldnt stop wagging it and kept opening the wound , she did look strange though poor girl although our legs didn't get whipped as much

I saw this dog with a woman today, and got more of the story, their friend got the dog a six weeks, 'docked' it for reasons best known to himsele a couple of days later, then was going to sell him at 6 months old as he got bored of the dog and the dog was 'too friendly' so the owners that have him now took him on and have had him for 3 yrs now.
