The vet has told me that my puppy Harry, is underweight, he is on pro-plan for large breed puppies but doesn't finish the bowl, any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome! How heavy is he? They do go through some awful skinny stages when they are growing up. How many meals a day does he get?

As regards your dog being underweight may I suggest that you post this under diet as you will get a better response than on the introduction thread.

Hi There, Harry was 14kg at 16 weeks. He is being offered 2 1/2 cups of pro-plan twice a day, he leaves more in the morning than he does at night. I am supllementing it with sardines, bones and the odd raw egg.

Offer less in the morning then if he is leaving some. But it sounds like he's going through the lanky stage. GSD's are notorious for going through skinny stags when growing up. As long as he is eating and is active I wouldn't worry too much. You can't force feed him lol!
Don't forget to post piccies!

Had this problem with a dog who was a reluctant morning eater, so fed three meals to him even as an adult a small one in the morning. one at about 5/6pm & another small one last thing at night.
Your dog is probably going through a phase a lot of GSDs do but if it continues or if his motions are not firm I'd think about his diet some more.

Hi Michelle and welcome to Dogsey at 16 weeks your puppy should still be on three small meals, better to give smaller amounts more frequently to 'grow a dog'.

Has he been wormed at regular intervals, puppies eat so much rubbish it is important to keep them wormed.

Hi,

Our GSD remained quite skinny til he was about 18months, old, if you are that worried, you could take him to your vets, ours have free weight clinics for people concerned about their animals.
