My internet works even though it is switched off!

My router has been switched off at the plug in the wall this evening.

Their are no lights flashing on the router itself.

It is switched off. It has no power.

Right now, as i report this, i am typing on an internet forum!

how'n the hell does that work???

Yeah, if it's wireless you're probably just using someone else's unsecured network. That... Or a wizard did it

Doesn't it normally require you to press something (with a warning about connecting to unsecured networks, etc.) before it connects to someone elses? it does with mine; it won't connect to anyone elses network automatically.

I think it depends on if you've connected to it before and what operating system you're running. Or, wizard

the router is wireless from itself to the laptop.

it is an unsecured network.
however, it is the same unsecured network i was using when the router was switched on.
i know it exists in my own phone line, i know it is AOL.
as i moved into this house a week ago, and i tried transferring my own plusnet account from my old address to this one, and they told me it wasnt possible until the AOL account on this phone line is closed down (belongs to previous occupant).

Plug your laptop into your router using an ethernet cable and (Following the manufacturer's manual.) check what the wireless access point name is. You're connected to someone else's network.

Also, if you really want to run an unsecured network (Are you sure?), do at least change your router's admin password. I've posted links to advice about security before so I won't bore you further.
