everyone loves poppy
she is such a lovely dog & i can take her places with me without having to worry about their being other dogs or children. don't get me wrong i love tiger too but tiger can be hard work. poppy seems to be pretty much the opposite of tiger, she's just so laid back. she's great with kids which is amazing because when she was a pup i became disabled & it took me some time to find out i weren't going to get better & get a wheelchair so she didn't have much socialising & didn't see young kids at all. when she was a year old my brother & his wife had their first child, we dont see them often as they live in ireland. poppy was so good with the baby even though she had never been close to a baby before. she just wanted to lick his feet which he loved
last time they were here the second child a little girl was upset for some reason, she was 2 years old & i entertained her by getting poppy to take my slippers & socks off & then she wanted poppy to take her socks off so poppy did that very gently. theirs no way i would've had poppy do that if i had the slightest doubt in my mind because it's just not worth the risk. poppy is never left unsupervised with kids of course because i think often when kids get bitten is because they've been unsupervised & have likely got too rough with the dog or the dogs wanted to be left alone & the child hasn't noticed the signals. whenever my nephew & niece visit i make sure the living room door & my bedroom door are open so if poppy wants a break from them which she sometimes does if they're throwing tantrums- don't blame her for that
she can get out of there & go & lay on my bed. poppy is the nearest to a perfect dog as you can get although i do need to work on her freaking out over protective collars. i've had to manage on 4 hours sleep or less evey 24 hours for 10 days now because she had a lump (thankfully it was nothing) which was removed & had 8 stitches put in so she has to be constantly watched for licking at it & trying to get stitches out. so once she's recovered i'll get her used to it
