TEDZER
**UPDATED: 9th JANUARY 2013**
Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK.
Key Points: Very happy, loves life, friendly, playful, affectionate, good with dogs, home savvy, moderately active.
Say hi to the Tedzer! He is a 3 year old greyhound boy who is looking for a loving family to call his own. Tedzer was originally bred to race, but never really got the point of all that racing business and managed to get himself banned from the track for goofing off! Still, Tedzer has never looked back, and has now come to Kerry Greyhounds UK to find his forever home.
Tedzer is a striking black boy with a little white heart on his chest. At approx 26”, he is relatively small for a male greyhound and is very dainty in his features. His coat is now beautifully sleek and soft after some TLC and brushes.
~ Personality ~
Generally: Super friendly, loving, playful, bit cheeky.
Tedzer is a real clown of a dog and truly loves life. He always has a big grin on his face and always sees the bright side in things. Just being in the presence of him will brighten your mood! He can sometimes be a wee bit shy when he first meets groups of new people, but this is improving rapidly as he gets used to guests coming to his foster home. And even if initially nervous, Tedzer soon gets over his bit of nerves and comes to say hi within 10 minutes.
When he knows you as a friend, Tedzer is 100% delighted to dole out the love and he really is a beautiful character. He is extremely affectionate and such a cuddly boy. He loves curling right up next to you and resting his head on your knee in the evenings. Tedzer definitely has a playful, cheeky streak too and loves to mess around and create a bit of harmless mischief. If you want a happy-go-lucky hound who will love to love you while keeping you on your toes, Tedzer is your dog!
~ Medical Issues ~
Tedzer has a bit of a sensitive tummy and is currently on a duck and rice diet which has improved things greatly. This is very unlikely something that will ever require medical treatment, but just something minor to bear in mind.
~ In the Home ~
Generally: Home savvy, housetrained, foodie, ok to be left with canine company.
Tedzer has been in a foster home now for over a month and is doing splendidly. He shares his foster home with 2 other dogs and loves them to bits. He is completely housetrained and ok to be left with the dogs for company. He’s a real goof and loves to play and zoom around, then promptly flop down on the grass for a snooze. Now that he’s discovered toys, he is hilarious to watch as he flings and pounces around the garden after them. Tedzer doesn’t countersurf but has a strange fetish for wool and knitting! He doesn’t destroy what he pinches, just carries it around and stores it on his bed for safekeeping. Though he loves kids, Tedzer would be best going to a home with kids older than 10 years as he can be a bit of a clumsy boy and may knock smaller kiddies flying by mistake.
Tedzer is completely food obsessed and as such is very trainable. He will essentially turn inside-out for a tasty treat! Though he doesn’t countersurf in his foster home, his foster parents are also good about not leaving temptation infront of his nose. He has learned to go to his bed when the humans are eating though, and has great manners when he knows that gets him the reward in the end.
~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Good with other dogs, still learning about smalls, playful.
Tedzer is generally very good with other dogs and is always pleased to make new friends. He adores his foster siblings and is very happy to share his space with them. We feel he would be happiest with at least one other dog to share his forever home with. He is excited but not bouncy in his greeting when meeting dogs for the first time, and loves to run around and play with dogs that understand his ‘tag’ game. Though playful and fun loving, Tedzer is still a greyhound and loves to lounge around and snooze.
Initial introductions to small dogs must be taken carefully at first until Tedzer is more used to seeing them, as currently he is right on the line between knowing they are always dogs and thinking the odd one might be good fun to chase. Once he knows the small furry thing is definitely a dog, Tedzer is fine, and with time he will be fine with all dogs, he is just on the learning curve right now so needs a bit of care. He is not cat friendly.
~ Out and About ~
Generally: Walks well, inquisitive, good traveller, moderately active.
Tedzer is an active, inquisitive fella who really wants to learn about the world around him. He walks well on the lead and is a good traveller. He would be very happy in a moderately active home who would take him on nice long walks as well as give him some offlead time to play and frolic for the joy of it.
Tedzer has great recall when he knows there’s yummy food on the menu! It is essential that he not be let offlead at first until a bond has formed and some recall work has been done with his new owners, but with a bit of time Tedzer is suitable to be let offlead in safe areas away from public transport. Until he is more used to seeing small dogs, Tedzer should be muzzled as a precaution if offlead in an area where small dogs can turn up, but there is no real malice in him.
Tedzer walks well on the lead and travels good in the car. He doesn’t react when barked at by other dogs, and is unfazed by traffic. Tedzer will take every opportunity to say hi to everyone he meets along the way, he’s a super social boy.
~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
