My OH just rang me and said the man in pets at home advises us to change mia's food, as she gets abit hyper and he said it might be the food, as its high in protein. Is this true? if so which other would you recomend?

High protein and hyperactivity is a myth, what happens is when dogs are given a better quality diet that is easily digestible the dogs have more energy.

I agree, there is allsorts of other things that can cause " hyperactivity" in dogs, yet people always seem to think its the food. But I was always under the impression the high protein/hyper can be linked but its quite rare.

If the dog is happy and healthy on that food I would not change.

There is absolutly no substantiated evidence to suggest that high protein causes hyperactivity in any species.

The employee in PAH is a shop assistant and is paid to sell you pets at home own brand food.

JWB is decent and if your pup does well on it then stick with it. Mia is a dobie puppy right? She isen't hyper, she's a puppy

Must admit I have never noticed any behaviour changes on varying protein levels.

Actually, the statement 'that protein is linked to hyperactivity and/or aggression is a myth' is becoming as mythical as that which it aims to expose, because.....

:
....there is no substantiated evidence to *prove* either claim, whereas their are some *reports* for both, of which the report supporting the link between protein and behaviour is the stronger in terms of scientific construction.

Its not so black and white as 'absolutely'.
But JWB should be fine.

If there was a real link between protein and hyperactivity then it would be most noticeable in those that fed raw because the protein levels are higher in a raw diet than most brands of kibble when worked out in dry weight.
