Sinclair ZX Spectrum celebrates 30 years anniversary

I loved my zx spectrum ...
In fact i still have it in a box somewhere ..
Thirty years ago on 23 April, Sinclair Research launched its iconic home computer, the ZX Spectrum, a device that went on to become one of the biggest selling models of all time and is even credited with kick-starting the modern UK IT industry by getting a whole generation of kids interested in computers.

We had a spectrum but I think it was the next model as the keyboard was plastic. I just remember trying to load games for it from a casette player, making LOTS of noise

ah yes, the tape cassette noise ours took forever to load. The only games i remember were Colin the cleaner and jetset willie.

i think we upgraded to an atari at some point.

edit: jet set willie A tired Miner Willy has to tidy up all the items left around his house after a huge party. With this done his housekeeper Maria will allow him access to his bedroom. I read that originally as her bedroom, an aspect that would have went right over my 5yr old head

Who could ever forget that noise, whirring away to itself for ages !.
My favourite game was one about a hunter, you had to guide him through the jungle and fight various animals, sounds total pants now, but it was great at the time.

It's quite amazing how far the gaming industry has evolved in our life time.

The spectrum and also the BBC computer sites still let you down load their old games to play.

Just started to play the BBC "Elite" game again and the Spectrum "Hobbit"

I had one, still have it. Took me about 4 hours to type in masses of code to get a dot to move across the screen by itself! I was dead chuffed at the time!
