Have you seen the vet if so what did they say ? If not think the dog should be seen by vet at least for first initial appointment

Does your dog use a harness? Depending on the harness type some can chaff sensitive skin & cause irritation in this area. It would our youngest dog & has done in the past. We use a ezydog harness which is fine

You say 'treating with saltwater'?

My dog goes into salt water and I'm concerned to get ALL the salt off her as soon as possible after we get home.

Blowing my own trumpet here but I' m an all Ireland swimmer, many moons ago but still swim now. Would spend hours in the pool training so I know about under arm water sores.Always dried well after and used powder. Not sure what type of powder you'd use on a dog but maybe worth looking into, just for the armpits

Well I'm guessing the salt water used to 'cure' stuff involves salt you buy. Not salt in various concentrations in various oceans. Nor in a 'salt' lake - where the 'salts' are not the same as sea salt anyway.

My daughter has thighs that rub together and swimming in the sea is agony afterwards for her. And that's due to the salt.

Isn't she just! Come on spill the beans on another thread.

Well back to the subject matter of this one. I said salt can cause it. The vet saying to keep the dog out of the water seems to me to be saying the same.

If salt water cured it wouldn't the vet be advising to let the dog go in salt water?

Different sort of salt water methinks.

My old GSD's paws would be red raw between the toes sometimes when she'd been going nuts in and out of the sea.

*And they put socks on the working donkeys down at the salt lake to keep the salt off their hooves!
