Explosive diarrhoea...starve or vet?

Hello, I have a black lab x, called Mia.

We woke up this morning to find that Mia had got out of the kitchen last night, knocked down the staircase and pooed all over our living room carpet....after completely destroying the kitchen with diarrhoea and wee!

She has tummy troubles sometimes, due to being intolerant to wheat, but this is worse than before.

Should we starve her today, other than water, as we'd usually do with a jippy tummy, or should I take her to the emergency vet today in case it's something else?

Thank you in advance.

If it was me I would go to the vet, I would always rather be safe than sorry, hope she gets better soon

Hi Ali!

Theres a doggy bug going around at the moment, I would recommend vet as all the dogs I know that have suffered have had sky high temps

Get well soon Mia x

Sounds really nasty - my reaction would be the vets too, as dehydration can kill (sorry if I alarm you)

Hope all goes well

Keep us posted please x

Right, will get her to the vet then!

It was my OH at home last night.... I've just come home, expecting to find the house uninhabitable, and there's one patch on the living room and one on the rug, and the kitchen isn't that bad!

The OH was wildly exaggerating!

We did go on a different to usual walk yesterday, so maybe she picked something up and ate it. Will still take her to the vet as you've said there's a bug going around.

Mia is as bouncy as usual, really bright and alert, which is a good sign!

If the dog is drinking lots and is OK apart from the dire rear, I would go to vet tomorrow. (but keep a close eye on her)
You might also want to invest in a dog flap.

Have you taken her temperature, to see whether its high?

Has she still got a jippy tum or are her poos getting back to normal again?

The only time mine have had jippy tummies is when they've eaten something they shouldn't on a walk .... the last time M'boi decided to have a snack of pig manure and had swallowed it before I could stop her.

If the temps normal I don't give food for 24 hours and make sure there's plenty of water available.

If things haven't improved after that I take them to the vet.

I just want to add a thought to the above good advice......were there lots of fireworks in your area last night? Many a dog will have weed and pooped in sheer terror because of the bangs.
