Advocate question

Hi all
I am now the pround owner of a new puppy!!!!
He has been to the vets today and he has ear mites. He has advocate and surolan for them.
Question is the vet also gave me the advocate for my GSD to protect her against them as they have been very close.
She was actually due her drontal this week and I notice that advocate does worms as well although not tapeworm.

Do I still need to use the drontal on the GSD as vet said the puppy wouldnt need any other wormer at the moment?
Am all confused between advocate, drontal and frontline now.

Thanks

Why not give the vets a quick ring and see what they say ?
They are the best ones to advise you in this matter

Hiya, my vets are now closed, they only open for 1/2 hour an a saturday.
I also thought it would be nice to get the opinions of others on here and what they use or suggest.

I use Advocate on my dogs as it covers a multitude including scabies, mange and fleas and ticks. It's very good but my vet also gave me drontal for worms. I've used both and had no problems at all.
Congratulations on getting your new puppy!! Can we have some piccies please?? Pretty please??!!

I use Advocate as I prefer it to Stronghold, I also use Drontal, but I give the Drontal, just before the Advocate is due to be re-applied and have had no problems.

I use Adovocate on it's own because Bryan can't tolerate any other wormer. We just have to keep our fingers crossed he doesn't get tapeworms!

Thanks for the replies

Maybe a silly question but is there any situations dogs are more likely to pick up tapeworms?

Yes from fleas, as these are part of the lifecycle of the tapeworm, also eating grass, raw meat etc.

Ben is only 15 months old, and I just go by what my vet recommend.

Thanks very much again. I do have another question now.

He just went poo which I pick up straight away and it was riddled with roundworm. These are the first ones I have seen since we got him on Friday.
He was supposed to have been wormed with panancur at 5, 8 and 12 weeks so is this normal?

I am presuming the advocate will kill these off but how long will it take?

Sorry if I am being a worrywart!!
