Puppy News! Cocker Spaniel

Well done to our darling Poppy on the birth of her 6 beautiful little girls born today! Pictures to follow later.

Ok, one picture taken this morning, Poppy is being quite protective over her babies so I don't want to disturb them too much!

Poppy has 4 blue roan (like herself) and 2 orange roan (like their gran Daisy and great gran Rosie)

We actually had a litter last year from our Daisy of 5 little boys, I guess it's just pot luck and these are 6 very pretty little girls just like their mum and dad.

Poppy gave birth at the vets, she had been in labour for 48 hours, pushing and contracting for around 2 hours, so we went to the vet, who said he thought best to opt for a section, we signed the consent forms, he took Poppy off and said he would let us know ASAP. Within 2 minutes he came back out, I thought something was wrong, instead he told us he lifted Poppy up onto the table to put her drips in and she delivered a pup there and then.....she then went on to deliver another 2, then stopped again. She was x-rayed and that showed another 3 pups, one was lying across and the vet thought she was blocking the way for the two behind her, so again he said he thought now would be a good time for the section. Two minutes later (again) he came out and explained as soon as he picked Poppy up she started contracting and produced another pup, so now he decided to see if nature would take it's course and let her whelp naturally. Within 1/2 hour the final two pups were born and Poppy (although exhausted) walked happily out to the car.

There aren't many vets who would have stepped back and waited, but ours did, he spent 4 hours on a one to one with her, he said he was supposed to finish work at 6pm, but he waited until 7.30pm when Poppy had finished.

Will post pictures tomorrow, both myself and Poppy are completely shattered.
