21/6 - the Longest Day

Well, here we are! Midsummer already! Tonight, in the Twilight Zone, the sun will set for about 20 minutes, and it won't get dark.

Not that it matters - we have thick fog and what the BBC used to call "mizzle". (Scottish word is best - "dreich").

What we get here is 4 months of winter, followed by 8 months of bad weather!

I remember living in Scotland (though not as far North) and walking across fields at midnight, able to see without the need for a torch. Here in Ireland we will get some darkness, it's fine today with odd showers so I will try and stay up to mark the occasion and see just how dark it gets
Depressing, isn't it, that the days will get shorter from now to the winter solstice.......

I love the longest day, but I always wish they wouldn't start getting shorter again for a little while... How irrational am I?!

Personally I prefer the dark nights, I like to be able to pull the curtains at about 6pm and sit by a open fire, but I also like to be able to have the back door open during the day and be able to potter in and out, don't think I'm ever going to be satisfied living in England

Sorry Snorri, you seem to be living in the wrong end of the Island, it's been fine with us all day.
