dvd needed cleaning

i've had my dvd player a few years now, and it's been skipping tracks occasionally. i tried a cleaning disc you can buy, but they only brush the dust off the laser lens. i opened up the case and cleaned the lens with a cotton bud soaked in alcohol, it takes the tarnish off the lens. DONT try and do this yourself , you could be blinded by the laser beam. if you can get one, try a (wet) cleaning disc, it makes a big difference to the player.
