Sleep or lack of it

My 13 month old springer insists on early rises.Hes walked anything between 1 and 3 times a day and is effervescent to say the least.Any Ideas or advice on how i can get him to sleep through the night?

H Breeze has this just started/where does he sleep.

Perhaps it is too light, are the curtains drawn, perhaps a noise wakes him, the milkman/neighbours going to work/the heating coming on.Look for the cause then you may find the solution.

Hi Breeze how does he insist on going out, what does he do ,does he bark?

If you started to go down to let him out you have conditioned him to expect to go out. At 13 months he is old enough to have control of his bodily functions through the night unless he is ill or there is a change of circumstances..

What you can try..
Take him out as late as possible last thing at night,
Extend the time you go down to let him out by 15 minutes every few days,
Don't go to him when he is actually barking because that teaches your dog barking will make you appear and you don't want him to think that, instead wait for a pause of a minute or so before you enter the room.
