Should I be worried.

Ollie is 4 months old now (Friday),and he shows some odd behaviour when people he doesn't know come into the garden or house,he barks backs off (wagging tail),and takes a bit of time to come round he doesn't always let them fuss him but he will sniff them eventually if he is ignored. We socialsied him well when we first got him and have kept it up.From my point of view it is nice because he doesn't leap all over the Guests. My previous two dogs did and it was nightmare.
He is better on walks not so good if on the lead but better when off and socialising with other dogs, although some people with dogs he is better with than others.Wondered if anyone else has experienced this with their dogs.

Zuki is the same with guests that come to our house, i have no idea why she does it, but like you its only when they come to the house, never is she like it out on walks, she is really weary of people coming in though once they are in and sitting down or what not she has a sniff and wanders off to do her own thing

Thanks Zuba thats reassuring, like I say I'm not too worried I would rather they ignore the guests than jump all over them.

hi Lynn I would have a little jar of treats to hand and encourage willing visitors to take a treat/ crouch down/call Ollie/ask him to sit /give the treat/praise. That way Ollie will learn to sit to greet people and he will also learn they are a good thing. Once he has got the idea only treat occasionally, just ask Ollie to sit and wait for a greeting and praise.

Shay is the same as Ollie with visitors, Lynn. Very wary until he's absolutely sure that they aren't a threat. Out on walks, he will rarely get close enough to a stranger to allow them to touch him. If he's on lead, he'll back away from anyone who tries to touch him.

Lola, on the other hand, will throw herself at anyone (and everyone ) and demand a tummy rub

Thanks for your replies everyone they have been very helpful and reassuring I will let him sort it out in his own time.I will also give MH's tip a go for Visitors to the house.
We are not unduly worried as we would rather he was a bit wary especially with the sort of people around these days don't want him running off with strangers.

esp with the people who seem to think pinching pups is ok......hes just growing up nothing to worry about.
its better to be wary of strangers than all over them as the wrong type could try to hurt him and all he wants is to be friends.
my 2 are noisy with strangers on the drive they step inside and they are different again maybe ollie is just that way too.
