I must say I'm not too keen on them - they always look like they need a good wash to me I don't know if its true but someone told me you have to wash them in eggs or something - surely that would make your hair smell awful

Depends on your hair really-They are absolutely no good on fine hair -and can be quite damaging-and when you've had enough of em-its really a case of cutting them out,but for curly hair or hair of a reasonable thickness they are ok,i quite like the 'thick' looking dreads as opposed to lots of little thin ones-think they look better-and are easier to take/cut out when you've had enough of em !
You don't have to be a 'greasy minger' to have dreads-there are a lot of good products on the market to look after them and you can use a 'dry shampoo' to keep your hair clean-and usually a type of wax/serum/oil to keep them looking smooth
But they do take a bit of effort to keep them looking good as with most styles,i think if well looked after and done 'right' they look great !!!(Ex-stylist me)

No sorry - I really don't like them. (no offence to anyone who has them)

I'm with Foxy and think they look like they need washed and when you see the hair up close it always looks like split-ends and frizzy.
