In which year ....

.... was your breed first recognized by the Kennel Club?

I am doing some research and your help would be appreciated (UK Kennel Club only)

For non-KC recognized breeds, in which year was the first, and still extant, 'legitimate' breed club formed?

Thank you
SB

Did a search on Border Collies and came up with this:

In 1964 the Kennel Club agreed to register the Border Collies who were already in the ISDS Stud Book. This is where the registration of the latter-day Border Collie began. In 1976 the KC upgraded the Border Collie to a breed in it's own right, though it was sometime before shows scheduled classes for them, and not until 1982 was it granted CC status. Shortly afterwards, a working test was devised by a group of people representing the KC, the ISDS and the two Breed Clubs of the time. By passing this test and also gaining Show Champion status a dog was able to claim the title of Champion.

Labrador retreiver was recognised in 1903 by the KC. And the following year the breed was listed seperately as a member fo the Gundog group.
Retreivers at this point were still not divided by breed as we know them today. It was not until 1904, when the labrador retreiver was separately listed that the KC began to differentiate between breeds, so in the early days there was confusion in the records as some were called 'golden' and others 'labrador'.Therefore 'golden retrievers' may indeed of been yellow labrador retreivers.

In my Bichon book it says that even as late as the 1970's there were no Bichons known in Britain although one kept as a pet had been registered with the Kennel Club in 1957. Even though this dog was not active in any other way because of its registration the breed could be registered immediately upon arrival in the early 1970's.

The real beginning of the Breed in Britain was in 1973 when Mr and Mrs J Sorstein from the USA came to live in Britain bringing with them two Bichons Frises, a dog and a bitch.

The Sorsteins Bichons, Rava's Regal Valor of Reenroy and Jenny-Vive de Carlise, were bred together and the first litter born in Britain was whelped in 1974. From this litter three puppies returned to the USA but two were shown in the UK. The dog, Carlise Cicero of Tresilva, was later to become an Austrailian Champion. This same dog was the sire of Int Ch Tresilva Don Azur, who made an impact on the breed in Sweden. The mating repeated in 1975, producing 5 puppies helping to form the foundation of other Bichon kennels.

By the 1970's, undoubtedly the charming Bichon Frise had gained many admirers throughout the world and its fame spread. Since then, bloodlines have been exchanged from country to country thanks to numerous exports.

The breed is now most certainly one which is taken very seriously. Presentation is first-rate and many high accolades have been achieved, including Best in Show wins and first in the Toy Group at the prestigious Crufts Show in 1999.

Bullmastiffs were created in the late 1800's, the British Kennel Club first recognised them in 1925.

Yorkshire Terrier was first recognised by the Kennel Club in 1886.
