Hello! I'm new (fear of traffic noise)

I recently rescued a whippet (mix) from Death Row. I've had the pleasure of owning several great dogs before; none of them being sighthounds, I was clueless about these guys! He's great! What fantastic dogs.
Our major problem is his severe bus/truck noise aversion, almost a phobia. During rush hour at home, 30 feet from a very busy city intersection, he almost can't be walked, he is so nervous, and he tends to hide out in the one room he doesn't hear traffic noise. Seems uncomfortable, not enjoying life much because of it.
Any advice, whippet folks?

Well done on rescuing a dog from Death Row. I am sorry but I cannot give you any advice but I am sure that someone who can will be along shortly.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your new dog!

Hello and a warm welcome It is a matter of time before he gets accustomed to it but I would think he will in time - try not to make too much of it play it down if you can so he see it is not worrying you. Good luck.

Welcome. Whippets can be very sensitive. Do you have traffic going past your house? Or is there somewhere you could go & not be near traffic but he can hear it. It sounds like he has had any experience with traffic.

Start off small..place treats around the car then when the dog is settled turn the engine. Make sure the dog is settled by the engine sound before you take him out where he will be overwhelmed. A country road will be best then move to streets..It will take effort and time but it can be done .

You can buy a 'Thunder shirt' to help calm him down
