All the epi dogs are special, as are all dogs really, but you know sometimes you are drawn to one particular dog, and Kody was one of those. Karen and I became close during this last year so when she posted in the early hours of yesterday morning that Kody could not carry on so they were saying their goodbyes, she and I had exchanged a few emails so she knew we would be with them when Kody was helped to the Bridge.
Here is a little story Karen told us about Kody while he was recovering in the veterinary hospital following surgery back in August - he was such a lovable character:
I called around 6pm, asked if I could drop off a cooling bed for him, which was fine. He has one at home, this was a brand new one, clean for the recuperation phase. They filled it with water, put it on the floor for him.
When the neuro called around 8:15 to fill me in, he told me this story:
Kody hadn't eaten in almost 48 hours~~~so after the bed was set up, he chewed a hole in it! So, almost 6 gallons of water later, the bed is a goner, and they had a mess to clean up. Poor Amanda, his tech...I'm sure she wasn't happy to have to deal with that. On the other hand, there's a part of me that is positively gleeful that he's causing a bit of mischief! He's still in there! And he's really really really hungry! He's now being allowed to eat. They are now using food to coax him to move.
It is sad when we lose any of our dogs - be they our own or those of friends - but when they are dogs you are close to, either in real life or in cyber life, it hits just that bit harder. And Kody was one of those special dogs.
Have you met up with all your friends yet Kody? Play well with all of them. xx
