Awwww,Poor Luke

All over the weekend he's had chronic toothache
He has seen the dentist today and he has a nasty infection under the tooth and has been given ab's.
He's in alot of pain and is taking parcetamol & ibuprofen,2 hours apart.

He also has a nasty cold on him so feels pretty grotty

I thought he was quiet this afternoon,he has been to sleep, obviously he must be feeling pretty low,he's also struggling to eat and is living on soft food at the moment,he's getting noodles for tea

I feel pretty useless as there isn't much I can do to help him

Hi Sal poor lad nothing worse that tooth ache .
If you have a hot water bottle you can wrap in a towel to lay his face on that can help with the pain.
I hope he will be better soon.

Hi Sal, I assume Luke is your OH and not your dog ? I am the queen of toothache, and my best advice is make sure he keep away from alcohol . It is a myth that it will dull the pain, all it does is make it throb even more because the alcohol dilates the blood vessels supplying the tooth. I hope the infection clears quickly with the antibiotics. There is nothing worse than toothache

Have you tried Clove Oil?

Thanks,
Luke's my son Jenny
I have suffered terrible with my teeth over the years, had an abcess under one of my wisdom teeth, boy was that painful and the relief when it burst.....

He doesn't drink much alcohol and won't touch it when he's taking painkillers and ab's I made the mistake of swilling brandy around mine and all it did was made me sick

Never thought about wrapping a hot water bottle in towel, thanks Mini

No haven't tried the clove oil will give that a go tomorrow, thanks

As well as a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel you could also try something like a pack of frozen peas, also wrapped in a towel. Sometimes the cold helps as much as the heat.

I do hope he feels better soon - toothache is really horrid, especially when there is an underlying infection.

Tooth abscesses - ghastly things! They say the pain is the closest thing to childbirth

When I had an abscess I found solphadine plus was the only OTC pain relief that touched it. Clove oil might help - but don't use too much as it can be dangerous.

I know it might sound odd, but toothpaste actually gave some temporary relief too!

Hope he gets well soon..
