The landrovers are reliable. What kind of area do you live in? ie Rural/Suburban
I ask this as I'd say you'd need to look at whether you'd need a 4 wheel drive workhorse or whether a large estate/people carrier would suffice.

yep freelanders seem good cars, not a huge amount of room in the boot though, that would be my only critism, otherwise good looking reliable cars

The Freelander is nice, although I prefer the Isuzu or the Grand Cherokee. If I had 55 grand to throw around, I would go and buy a Hummer (think that's what they're called)

Freelanders are anything but reliable, Landrovers are rated poor for reliability by The Consumer association, Dealerships are rated as poor too, certain parts are in short supply due to the high demand for them because of failure.
The only Landrovers worth their reputation is the Defenders.
The Maverick is basically a Nissan Terrano, so has to be the better car.

all diesel Freelanders are fitted with BMW engines now, very reliable.. & also very economical...

I've had 2 Toyota 4 runners & one Toyota Landcruiser Colorado, the Freelander is a much better car...
