Isla's Latest Eye Test....

Well Isla went for her yearly check up re her cataracts and the news isn't good. I knew her left eye had got much worse in the last 6 months as the cataract had become very visible. As it turns out both eyes are affected. In the left she only has vision from 7:00 to 11:00 on a clock face, in the right the vision is much better but it would appear it is progressing just as fast as the left. The difference between the two latest eye examinations is quite startling when you put them side by side. So it's off to the cataract surgeon we go!

I've made an appointment for a fortnights time and we'll see what he says. The eye specialist I see every year went through all the options with me and we both felt given her age and the chance of restoring most of her sight with surgery I'd be mad not to give it a try.

On a happier note if the insurance doesn't pay out my parents have offered to pay for some of the surgery and lend me the rest. In total it will be about £3,000!

And finally here's a pic of the girl herself - winning 2nd in Prettiest Bitch at a local Game Fair Dog Show.

I'm sorry to hear of your news re Isla. I know how you feel as this is what we went through with Cherry last year. At least we had a good insurance policy as we don't have that sort of money to pay ourselves. Your dog looks lovely-Cherry won 2nd in "prettiest bitch" on Saturday too!

Thanks and well done!

I have lifetime cover insurance, but unfortunately the very first vet to see Isla failed to point out she had a precursor to cataracts and so I've changed companies between that examination and the next which found cataracts - so I have a feeling my current insurer will class it as a pre-existing condition!

Thank you.

I'd love to get her back into the ring once her eyes are sorted. She doesn't win much but my God she loves it, she rarely has four feet on the ground when going round the ring.

She's such a beauty, Em, and deserves the chance to regain her sight.

I hope it all goes well....... please update us with the surgery appointment date so me and the gingers can send some healing, positive vibes for the beautiful Isla

Oh dear, hope all goes well.

I have to say, that I always look forward to my GSDs annual eye test with some trepidation. Even though the vet says that HC will normally have appeared by the age of 3!

Good luck.

Bless her little heart, she is such a beauty

I think you have made the right decision for her, but I can imagine how hard it was to decide, I'm sure it will give her a new lease of life.

Hope it all goes well and that the insurance will pay out xx
