I didn't find it very effective. I give mine chicken wings to clean their teeth now.

Might give a stagbar a try. Are they ok for them to have in the living room etc or do they get messy?

A stagbar is a section of deer antler....completely mess free and amazing at cleaning teeth.....very long lasting and my dogs have taken to them in a big way. There is a thread on here about them somewhere.....
