Basil eats cat Litter!

As well as my Cockapoo Basil, we have two tuxedo cats, one male, one female, both about 12 years old.

We have never had a catflap so have always kept a covered litter box in the house should they need it. However, Basil just will not stop eating the cat litter, and sometimes the cat poo if there is any in the box. I can't keep the cats and the dog in separate rooms as our house is just not big enough.

I tried keeping the cats upstairs on the landing and the dog downstairs with a gate on the stairs but the litter box is far too big to keep upstairs as the landing is too small.

How do I stop Basil eating cat litter and cat poo? Dirty little devil!

If you find away tellme,Ive tried all my life to do this. Its always a race in our house to see who gets there first but the Papillion pup has discovered she wins, hands down, cos she gets her whole self through the litter tray flap in to it!!

Indeedy.......... I think cat s........ is a delicacy to most animals......I often used to find Ailsa licking her lips after dining in the kitten litter...... and from the doorway I used to see Jake digging his way through the building sand in an effort to get his morsel........ they dig it up in the garden too, by the time I've got to them it's long gone with much smacking of lips. The answer is quite simply you can't stop them, it's an animal thing........yuk..........

Cat poo is just a tasty snack to a dog. Try putting it behind a baby gate?

Sorry Claire that made me smile we bought a large dog gate with a cat flap in as 2 of the cats are over17............... and one of the collies was found with a head and foreleg through the cat flap and the rest of her just "slinked" through and she wasnt a small bitch either
