Sheepskin Rugs

We've got a sheepskin rug that we've had for about 18 months now and although we never intended for the dog to use it unfortunately he has adopted it as his own and it has become his living room bed!

As a result it now stinks of dog! I really want to wash it but have no idea how to go about it and can't find the washing instructions that came with.

Anyone got any idea how I should clean it. I was thinking about soaking it in the bottom of the bath and then using the shape of the bath to stretch the leather back into shape.

Also what would I use detergent wise?

Thank you for the link! I had no idea you could put them in the washing machine on the wool setting!

Yes, I've done that with mine, but you have to make sure you dry it flat ok! I hung mine on the line, just thrown over it, so no tumble drying, it could shrink!

If you are still stuck, try the website www.skyeskyns.com, I am sure they will have a contact us bit and we went to see them on hols last year they were so knowledgeable and very helpful and not at all pushy for us to buy anything (in fact we didn't) I am sure they would answer any questions

Washing machine no hotter than 40 degs and then brush with the dog brush when dry - they come up beautifully!

Thanks for all the tips guys! I'm going to try it in the washing machine tomorrow when i've found somewhere flat to lay it to dry!

And once clean I think Monty will be banished from lying on it!!
