Dog Walking Difficulties

As I type, the snow here is still bleaching down. We now have over a foot and a half of the stuff, which means it comes over the top of my wellies and makes walking in the fields and on the pavements near impossible. Not to mention that it's deeper than Murphy is tall! The main roads, whilst passable, are still pretty slippery, making walking on them a danger, as you have to swiftly jump out of the way for passing vehicles. We've been stuck to the same boring figure-of-eight walk around our street and the next one, where the snow has been flattened a bit.

Is anyone else having the same trouble and does anyone have any suggestions how to make a short boring walk more exciting/mentally stimulating?

I'm having big problems walking Shady as she is a big strong dog and fear aggresive with other dogs and children.
So I have to drive her somewhere off our estate to walk her. I can't get over to the field I hire 10 miles away as they are not gritting the roads. The paths are lethal so she is only getting about 15 mins onlead round the quiet block on our local buisness park.
She is so full of energy she is at bursting point, I will be so glad when this weather is over as she really needs a good run, but there is no let up in sight at the moment.
My greyhound Kyiro is the oppisite and quite happy to lay dozing in the warm rather than go traipsing the streets in this weather.

I'm having a mare Ours isn't actually all that bad (I mean our road is impassable by car but other people are coping with walking) but with my health problems and disability I just daren't go out.

I'm getting cabin fever stuck in all day, the dogs are doing so well to say they're not getting walked and I'm desperate to get out with them.

They have been out playing in the garden and I'm doing lots of training and mental games to try and keep them stimulated but they're not getting out and the puppy isn't getting socialised. It's awful.

It makes me really angry because it's only because of my problems that I can't go out. Other people can cope and I feel like I should be able to aswell!

Don't beat yourself up too much, Lottie. I think eveyone is getting sick and frustrated with it now. Even with no health problems, the weather's just been relentless and it's hard work!

Managed for the first time for a few days to get my girls out.....still quite icy underfoot, and the snow is deep in the fields......They enjoyed it though....I do worry about them injuring their legs on the ice...

We've had trouble using the roads but the pathways to the park are compacted now so I can take Leon over there for a walk, we don't do the whole circuit to include the Toot but he seems content enough just to stretch his legs for half an hour or so...I have to get him out as he won't toilet in the garden

I would have no chance driving him anywhere as the roads are just too bad..luckily he's an old boy now and seems happy to get back in the warm after a short while.

It's pretty horrid here too. The main roads are pretty good, but the side roads and paths are lethal. I only take Mya for a few hundred yards, as that's all she likes, and fortunately, Baz is taking Lennon.

I wish it would just b*gger off now

I have still had my two out for their usual most days (Tango had a shortened walk on the day she kept lying down to eat her snow bobbles!!!!) We are limited to our local park/field though and it's boring. It is only a 5/10 minute walk away on lethal pavements/roads but it is small and I am totally fed up of it. It takes twice as long to get there and back with Cosmo as he is either eating snow or rolling in it...To make it worse it has been invaded by people with sledges...so we can onlt walk in half of it and Tango is obsessed by the sledges! We normally only use this place for Tango as it isn't very busy so it does her good and we head elsewhere with Cosmo...and at the weekends we head out and about big style for walks, we just can't do that. We toyed with the idea today but decided we were probably being foolish. I am stir crazy and very very bored.

On the plus side, just being able to take Tango out in this weather is a massive bonus as I trust her not to pull me over to get to other dogs...which shows how far she has come. Every cloud and all that!!!

I'm also having problems and haven't managed to get Louie out for a walk today. The ice is really bad around the house as I live on a hill and Louie is so strong that its not worth the risk.

He was such a nighmare yesterday that I decided not to take him for a walk again until the weather improves.

I've been trying to get him to play with his toys in the garden today, although he prefers the game of try to pull the bird feeder down which i've tied onto the lower branches of his tree.

Thankfully they finally gritted the main road out to the field yesterday lunchtime and I managed to get Shady and Kyiro over there and boy did they run.
I really wish this snow would dissapear now its getting beyond a joke. Hopefully I will get them there again today.
