Available Physical Memory

Can anyone please tell me what takes up physical memory? (Using Vista).

Does Firefox take up a lot?

If so, does it take up more memory the more tabs you have open?

Is there any way of making more memory available?

Ta.

1. Any amount of rubbish probably! Try going through your running services and carefully prune out the ones you don't need. This might help.

2. FF does take up a bit, you can 'tune' it. Have a read of this.

3. Sure does use more if you open more tabs!

4. Buy some more! This is a good site to find out what you need. You can then shop around for the same type but hopefully a bit cheaper.

HTH!

I just thought! If you've got a desktop machine and are using the onboard/built in video ataptor to plug your monitor into, you might want to look into getting a card that goes in one of the PCI slots. The onboard adaptors share memory with everything else whereas the add on ones have their own memory.

Something like this.

Jusy another thought - how much memory does your machine have? My first laptop that had Vista on it was orginally designed to run XP.

XP will run on 500 meg while Vista runs far better on 2 - 3 Gig of memory.

If your machine has only 2 gig or less of memory - it's not that it's gone anywhere - it's just that Vista is greedy!
