KC Good Citizen Dog Scheme

I'm interested in seeing how many on here have used the KC GCDS for training their dogs. Do you think that every dog should have passed the basic Bronze level of training?
I've been thinking of taking my lot through this scheme, even if I just do Bronze with them all.
Your thoughts and votes on the poll please! Poll is multichoice so you can vote for both puppy and bronze etc!

Daisy and Shamus would never pass the Bronze because neither likes being touched by strangers (unless they`ve made the first approach).
Also we`re not welcome at local dog clubs because they had a history of reacting to people - and yes I have tried to join. They are both now `safe` but I do feel the need to be honest!
(However, I`ve emailed a new one so you never know!)

we did the foundation award but decided not to go any further with it as we both felt that Monty responds better to one on one training and was did not seem to enjoy puppy class.

I also personally think it depends on the class and how it is run as to how far you go with it. I felt that Our class had too many dogs in it, this in turn made some tasks more difficult or in some cases impossible.

Having said that we witnessed some huge changes in some of the dogs in our class.

We just completed the puppy foundation & are moving on to the bronze. Tilly can do most of the stuff but it's a good challenge to do them with the other dogs as distractions.

Its very basic but I started running it as a way to give the people in my classes something to work towards.

I run 2 tests a year (bronze and Silver) and one Gold one. I take most of the pups through the foundation course as well.

Me and Obi have done our Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels. This along with the agility and working trials has made a massive difference and he is a different dog. I had never heard of them until we started training where we do and this only happened because of Obis aggression as no where else would have him! That said im pleased we found out about it and would always with any future dogs go through the process again. I would use the same place as well.

Lola has her puppy and her bronze. Shay was too old for puppy by the time that we got him so he only has his bronze.

I found the training was as usueful for me as the dogs...it got me used to giving conisitent commands, using rewards and working with my dog in an environment were there was lots to distract both them and me.

I definitely think it's a good thing for novice owners and for socialisation of a new dog/pup, even with more experienced owners.

Some interesting points and I didn't know so many people had done the tests! Do you think that every dog owner should be made to take the basic bronze test as a legal requirement to owning a dog? I appreciate that there are going to be those that will and those that wont regardless but just interested in peoples views and do you think that if all dogs had this basic training that there would be less dog related issues when out and about?

Well I've just done my 6 weeks foundations class, although I missed the last class, so don't know whether or not they all got a certificate, although I didn't get one yet! I'm starting again at a much bigger class which has a big open show, which I've been waiting to get signed in at, and that starts on the 28th April, but I will definitely be going on to the Bronze and maybe the Silver, but yep, definitely the Bronze! I have the right material to do it with this time around
