Teaching to sit!

I've got a pug cross chihahuha (sp?) who is about 4 or 5 months old and ive been trying to train him for a week or so now as i had some spare time.
The problem is he's just so hyper active!
I can't get him to sit still in order to teach him anything.
I can just about get him to sit with a treat and a gentle pat on the back but as soon as i praise him he jumpes up and runs around etc.
Anyone got any advice for training hyper puppies? Or do i just have to be persistent with it?

burn some energy off first. combine training with play. wait and praise calmness.

Thanks for both your help
I took him for a walk first and i checked out that link, now he's got it
I tried doing it outside and he just ignored me haha but i supose i have to fully master in doors n then try outdoors, as inside he still ignores me occasionally.
But yeah, he sits 95% of the time now
Thankyou
