Which breed should I choose???

I'm thinking I would like a smaller breed dog that my daughter could handle at shows and also could sit on my knee without cutting off the blood supply to my legs! A dog from the pastoral group would be convenient, so it could be shown on the same day as the Estrelas, but I would consider a breed from outside of their group.

So far I like Vallhunds, Finnish Lapphunds and Pyrennean Sheepdogs (though pyr sheepdogs may be too high energy for me). I want a dog that gets on with other dogs and cats, and is medium energy so can chill at work with me during the day. Not too much coat, as my daughter would also be helping with the grooming side.

I wouldn't want a toy breed either, as my dogs are big and I wouldn't want it to get injured if they tripped over it etc.

Any suggestions?

A possibility! I had a Basenji breed book as a child so I've always liked them. They are on my ;maybe' list!
