Secure dog park or field in Essex or Suffolk

We are the new owners of a lovely Saluki cross called Wall-E. after 2 days, he is in need of a really good blast. He was running rough in our village for 2 weeks before the wardens finally caught him so we know his recall is non existent and so, it's on the lead only till we can find a safe high fenced place to let him be the runner he is. I have picked up some tips about Newbury park in Ipswich, and a dog park off Somerset avenue in Prittlewell off the A127. Also a lady posted a 4.5 acre field in Essex, but all the posts are quite some time ago. Would be really grateful for a quick update. Thanks! :grin

Hello and welcome to Dogsey!

I'm not local to your area, nor do I have a similar breed of dog, but I am believe that the Greyhound Rescue near me allows people with rescue hounds to visit with their dogs and let them have a run in their secure fields - might be worth seeing if there is a local facility like this in your area?

Gosbecks archaeological site near the zoo in Colchester has enclosed fields next to it and is great when the cows aren't in there
Most of the other places we go around Colly aren't securely fenced enough for what you need unfortunately. Going to the greyhound rescue sounds like a good idea Pepsounds, hopefully Madmare will be along with some advice soon.
Welcome to Dogsey btw!

Hi guys!

Just returned from the site at Prittlewell off the A127, take the 1158, the site is off Somerset avenue.Parking in side roads ok.It looks great, about 1.5 acres totally enclosed with 7 foot fence and railings on 3 sides. Only downsides are: back fence chicken wired and 5 ft tall. Careful if your dog is a jumper, may need a few visits on the lead to acclimatise. It's by a busy road, and backs onto the Southend arterial, so loads of road noise. Finally it's just by the airport so low flying aircrafts too. Will give it a whirl, met a saluki and owner there, they are well pleased with the park. Other thing: muzzle advised.

Took 30 minutes from Chelmsford.

Have fun!

Jeanne
