Max's Assessment Scores

Thought I'd post Max's assessment scores from training on Tuesday. Unfortunately, we didn't get enough marks to move up a class, but I know where the problems lie and so can work on fixing them....

Temperament Test 10/10 Of course!!
Heelwork on Lead 9/15 He did OK, but was distracted by another dog doing a wait nearby
Group Heelwork Test on lead 8/10 Lost a couple of marks on the turns
Recall 13/15 Had to tell him to wait more than once
Informal recall past food on lead 9/10 Didn't pull towards food, but was very distracted by it
Down on command 9.5/10 Wasn't particularly fast!
Sit stay off lead 1.5/15 This is one of our problem areas
Down stay off lead 15/15 Yay!!

Oh I love the idea of an assessment! Well done on all the good bits and just keep working at the not so good bits. I'm not sure Wilson would have got high marks like that!

The worst thing is that Max's heelwork in the garden or on the beach etc is perfect! His turns are razor sharp, he is attentive and reactive, but as soon as we get in the hall, he acts like he's never been on a lead!

Well done to you both

With the sit stay does he get up or does he go from a sit to a down?

My dog used to start in the sit but would always lie down part way through. I realised that it was because he was doing a lazy sit i.e. he was sitting with his legs to the side of him rather than having them tucked up under him so it was very easy for him to slide down into a down.

Once I had corrected his sit position he achieved the sit stay every time.

Well done, I'd be as proud as punch if one of mine could achieve something like that.

Now that I'm working again I would like to take Bradders back to obedience, you've got to start somewhere so why not with the naughtiest?

People in the know will be able to give you a few tips and I, for one, am delighted for you. Please give Max a big hug from Auntie Sheree x
