Worming Tablets

Hey all,

Just a quick question. Cassie has always got her worming tablets from the vet when she's there for her yearly check but they say we should give her worming tablets every 6 months. She's not due at the vets so was going to call them and get the tablets from them.
Do I need to do this through the vet or can I buy anything without a vet visit? If so, what brand, how much of a dosage etc.

Thanks.

It looks like it's spelled Miltenox???
Can't read their writing LOL
That was a year ago, I don't have the details of the most recent tablets.

Hi Jackie,

I give Drontal Plus which I get from Petmed.co.uk - they're about £1.60 each, and you may find your vet is actually cheaper once you've paid postage.

The dosage is 1 tablet per 10kg bodyweight.

Hope this helps

V

I get the wormers for the dogs, cat and horses from hyperdrug, postage is free on wormers and they cost half the price they do from the vets.

Thanks all, so I gather it doesn't matter which brand she's had before then?
I didn't know whether it mattered if I changed from the ones she'd had before.

I'd speak to the vet.

My 7 month old pup had wormer off the internet in January, same as he'd been given at the vets, followed the instructions exactly. He had (undiagnosed) lungworm and the wormer made him so much worse as the dose is different for 'routine' versus 'treatment'. The vets still didn't work it out and tried to operate.

He died.

So my advice is check you have a decent vet that can work out textbook symptoms then check every single time with your vet before you worm them even if they 'suggest it' but don't give you what you need. Make them specify if, when and how much to give. I learned the hard way about finding a decent vet and how wormers can make your dog so so poorly.
