Aimee - 4 year old female Greyhound

Aimee is yet another sad casualty of the greyhound racing industry and was left with a very uncertain future until we managed to secure her safety. Aimee is 26" to the shoulder and only 4 years old. She has a bony hard lump on the outside of her rear back foot which is a badly healed fracture (this no longer hurts her) and old scars on her neck and shoulder. She has blossomed with her lovely foster Mum and is now looking glossy and chic and on the lookout for her very own family to give her love she so badly missed out on earlier in her life. Could you be that special family?

Location: Living in a foster home in Norfolk.
Key Points: Sensitive, very sweet, loving, happy, quiet, extremely friendly, affectionate, calm, good on the lead and great in the car but can react to other dogs out of sheer fear (no aggression whatsoever) so will need ongoing gentle training and reassurance with this, very clean in the home and sleeps well during the night. Could be an only dog with someone who very rarely leaves her alone or with a nice quiet and gentle canine companion.

~ Personality ~
Aimee is just THE sweetest and daintiest little girl who loves to play and cuddle but hates to get wet or muddy! She makes very strong bonds with those she lives with and adores human company and gives a very strong sense of wanting to belong and be loved. She is as black as a midnight sky with small white stars and now has a beautiful shiny coat. Aimee loves to be cuddled and is such a sweet and sensitive little soul who also chatters her teeth when she is happy and collects slippers and interesting items!

~ In the Home ~
Aimee continues to blossom in the home environment and LOVES her creature comforts! She is 100% clean and sleeps without a peep during the night. She loves treats and food but will never beg for food and is very responsive to gentle training/guidance. She is also more than happy to greet guests nicely and go back to her comfy bed where she will have a good doze!

~ Other Animals ~
When Aimee first came to us she could be fearful of other dogs and this manifested itself with her barking and jumping around on the lead. She showed no aggression whatsoever. Since then Aimee has been doing brilliantly well, training with her foster Mum and our behaviourist with this one problem and responds very well to praise and treats. She will rather back away from frightening situations with other strange dogs than be confrontational. Aimee still wears her muzzle in public in case of other peoples unruly and out of control dogs running towards her but is doesn't seem to bother her wearing it and she loves her walks even though she doesn't go off lead. She is trying so very hard to be brave but her new owner MUST understand it’s purely fear that makes her try to respond the way she does and she so wants to please you. Our behaviourist will be happy to give lifelong support with this issue even though she is making huge progress so please don’t let this put you off, she is SUCH a lovely girl!! Aimee shows interest in rabbits/birds etc so unfortunately will be unable to live with cats or small furries. Aimee is currently living with another gentle female greyhound in her foster home.

~ Out and About ~
Aimee knows her name and is good with recall in the garden. She is a very good girl on the lead apart from if she is fearful of another dog, as we said before, she shows no aggression whatsoever but she will bark and jump around on the lead even though this is becoming less and less frequent. She can also get frightened if noisy children run towards her. She is brilliantly behaved in the car and loves to just calmly gaze out of the window and watching the world go by!

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family environment, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the retired. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

~ Where Can I Live? ~
We feel Aimee would rather live with one other calm and kind dog for company but could equally live with a quiet family as a single dog providing there is always someone at home the majority of the time. The family must be prepared to give her on-going training and LOTS and LOTS of cuddles!! Please also note we do not re-home to families with children under the age of 8 years.

~ Where Am I? ~
Aimee is currently living in a foster home in Norfolk. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a home checker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to Norfolk to meet and collect her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
