New York's Halloween parade - for dogs

Whatever next

Thousands of New York's best-dressed dogs have taken part in the 25th annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade.

The costumed canines took part in a runway competition, hoping to earn thousands of dollars in prize money.

Creative costumes on display included Batman, a cone of 'pom frites' and an host of other animals, including New York's notorious 'Pizza Rat'.

Oh boy! Do I dislike this sort of thing. Dressing up animals for whatever reason I find demeans them.

Dressing up dogs for Halloween is very popular here in the USA. I'd have gotten a suit for Nigredo if I could have found something that fit!

Not my cup of tea either, but if the dogs are happy and the owners are happy, why not?

I do think that sometimes we get a bit too 'precious' about these things. Fun is a great part of dog ownership (or it should be) and having fun together helps form a great bond.

For both. Dogs often respond to owners and if owners are laughing and joking, the dogs more often than not respond accordingly.

Small dogs generally love this kind of nonsense, my Pugs would happily dress up and enter into the fun of it, shame they have me for an owner really lol We have fun every day but dressing up Nah.

Assuming his outfit isn't really tight, Nigredo enjoys the attention dressing up brings him. Because he's over 40 kg, it's rare to find something that fits so unfortunately he never gets dressed up.
