This poor girl. I can't imagine how she feels.

I saw this yesterday Nippy Jen that poor woman. I consider myself lucky that I have minimal scarring from my uncles dog attack on my top lip when I was two.

Says the dog is 9, so wonder if its done it before and they've got away with it till the new law came in, whats the difference between an American Akita and a Japanese Akita?

The story I read said it has done this before June.
I think the tails of the Japanese Akita are more curled up if I remember we had one lived near us when we lived at Fennells in Harlow. It was slightly shorter too. Also it was all white. It could be funny especially towards other dogs it was a rescue. It always took notice of the man and he usually walked it and their Rottie sometimes his wife walked them but they always played up and once when we walked together and Ollie laid down for a rest it got funny with him and him and Ollie got into a scrap and we had to leash both of them and part ways. The woman was walking them that day.
They met a few days later off lead with the man in charge and they were both fine.

I think American Akitas are larger than the Japanese version. I've only met a few Akitas and they were pretty nasty I must admit. Nigredo and I got DQ from a therapy program because they labeled him as "an Akita or any mix thereof" because of his curly tail.

They told us to take a long hike off the deep end. He's clearly a Lab mix, even with the curly tail so I think they were reaching. But any chance of him having some Akita in him made them too wary of him.

But Akitas are pretty high on the "bite list" here and when you see terrible damage like this being dealt by the attack of one... makes sense that a THERAPY program wouldn't want them.

Not saying I favor the breed discrimination, since it caused US to be wrongfully DQ but saying it makes at least a tad of sense. BTW, that is some horrible damage to her face... looks terribly painful.

I met a man one day when I was out walking with what I assumed was an Akita. I stopped and asked him, he confirmed it was and asked me not to get too close, or to touch him because he could be nasty

My Son,
Has a beautiful and very well trained Akita. They can be aloof but to imply they will all bite is a sad generalisation. Keira is a fabulous dog, I have been more frigtened by a Jack Russel thank ever with her.

...and she gets Ł1,000 fine and a year's suspended sentence for her dog doing THIS to somebody???!!! So much for this new law then!!!

My hairdresser told me she had an akita and a rottie once, and one day a nasty Labrador attacked her rottie, pinning him to the ground and attacking him, and then and only then, did her akita ever step in, pinned the lab down by the neck bit it, and bit it hard! She said he was the softest dog out normally, but I suppose, with his friend being attacked like that, his hackles rose.

I cannot believe this poor woman got such injustice and the other woman got off almost scott free!!!
